Our client is looking for an assistant herd manager with a minimum of 3 years of dairy farming experience .

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn in a small supportive team with good communication and a real emphasis on training in pasture management.

Milking 800 cows on 320 ha though a 50 bale rotary with milk meters, ACR, in-shed feeding and cows have pedometers to measure activity and heats.
7,2 7,2 7,3  roster.

Duties:

  • See the farm and the cows as more than just “things”.
  • Milk competently, including caring for the milk and at times being able to run the shed independently (ie set shed up, do vat washes, treat sick cows)
  • Accurately put up electric fence breaks – straight, power on, pegs in, water, in place where grazing plan says.
  • Report back with some accuracy and depth an assessment of what is happening in the paddock for cows and grass – ie cow behavior/assessment of being well fed, pre and post-grazing covers, knowing when there is not enough or too much grass.
  • Drive a tractor and feed out.
  • Safely use vehicles and know how/what is required to look after them.
  • Understand milk quality alerts, faults in shed
  • Assisting with repairs/maintenance
